Event - Year 6 Alton Castle Residential

9 March 2016

On Wednesday 9th March, the Year 6 children along with Mrs. Linley, Mrs. Nellist, Miss Dorsett and Miss Ward travelled to Alton Castle in Staffordshire for a fun and action packed residential.

The theme of the retreat was 'Discipleship in the Year of Mercy', this was incorporated in to all the fun and engaging activities the children took part in.

A night walk, rock climbing, mountain biking, trekking, archery, survival skills and an adventure course were just some of the fun activities that the children experienced. The climbing and adventure course proved a big hit giving everyone a formidable appetite for the lovely food that was provided throughout the stay. Morning and evening prayers with the Alton Castle team were special times throughout the trip too, as was Mass which was prepared and led by the children in the beautiful Chapel next to Alton Castle.

Friendships were forged with pupils and teachers from Our Lady and St. Hubert's School in Oldbury who were also on retreat. One of the highlights of the trip (and there were many!) was the talent show on the Thursday evening. Both schools cheered each other on and showed great support and enthusiasm. A dance-off between the girls and the boys of both schools showcased what talented dancers both schools have and the night ended in high spirits.

Before everyone knew it, the time had arrived for a return journey to Great Barr where tired children were met by welcoming parents and, no doubt, many other stories of this exciting trip.

This year's Year 6 Alton Castle trip was a triumph! The Year 6 children were outstanding ambassadors for St. Mark's and the staff were very proud to have them there. Children and staff will no doubt have many fond memories to look back on and share for many years to come.

Well done Year 6!
